WSP, a global leader in engineering and professional services, set out to transform its London headquarters at 70 Chancery Lane into a model for sustainable design. This five-story retrofit project was more than a design upgrade — it was an opportunity to align the workplace with the UK’s net-zero ambitions.
To help realise this vision, Acoufelt was brought in to deliver sustainable acoustic solutions that addressed both functional and aesthetic requirements, contributing to acoustic comfort, employee well-being, and environmental performance.
Open-plan offices promote collaboration but often suffer from poor sound control. To address these acoustic challenges, Acoufelt supplied a curated mix of Fracture wall panels, Regular wall panels, and Linear ceiling baffles, each selected to manage sound effectively while enhancing the office’s overall aesthetic.
In visually prominent zones, Fracture acoustic panels in Turmeric, Currant, Platinum and Granite tones were used to absorb sound and add design texture. The Fineline pattern introduced architectural interest while enhancing acoustic performance.
Complementing the Fracture panels, Regular acoustic wall panels were used to maintain design cohesion and enhance sound absorption.
Above the collaborative and high-traffic zones, Linear ceiling baffles in ‘Granite’ were installed to help manage reverberation and minimize ambient noise, creating a more balanced and productive work environment.
A commitment to sustainability was a key driver of this project, guided by the NABERS framework. A mixed-mode HVAC system was implemented, reducing the building’s energy demand by 65% through natural cooling facilitated by the glazed façade.
Acoufelt was chosen for its environmentally responsible approach, with FilaSorb™ crafted from over 60% recycled PET and produced using 40% renewable energy. This dedication to eco-conscious materials and energy-efficient manufacturing contributed to both the sustainability objectives and the overall well-being of employees.
WSP’s London office now reflects a forward-thinking blend of design, acoustics, and sustainability.
The thoughtful selection of color palette introduced a refined and inviting atmosphere, harmonizing with WSP’s corporate identity. The combination of smooth and textured surfaces delivered a visually dynamic yet highly functional sustainable acoustic solution.
The outcome is a workspace that seamlessly integrates energy efficiency, acoustic excellence, and modern design. Acoufelt’s sustainable acoustic solutions played a pivotal role in shaping an environment that fosters collaboration, enhances employee comfort, and supports productivity — all without compromising on sustainability or aesthetics.
