Breweries and cellar doors are popping up rapidly across inner city and suburban areas, representing the latest in trendy hospitality venues for socialising, eating and sampling drinks brewed onsite. Given the infrastructure, specific temperatures and space required to brew, ferment and store batches effectively, these activities tend to be housed in converted industrial-style buildings, commonly made with concrete floors, tin walls, high ceilings and a lot of open, cavernous space.
Â
These hard surfaces combined with bountiful open space can cause soundwaves to bounce around the interior, resulting in high levels of reverberation. The echoing noise of patrons, staff and music can make for an uncomfortable acoustic space.
High levels of sound reverberation and echo can be loud and distracting, as well as reduce speech audibility and comprehension, making the flow of conversations more difficult. The result? Patrons will instinctively want to move away from the space, and may leave the venue for a more comfortable soundscape.Â
Without compromising on the industrial-style aesthetic of the space, designers can opt to incorporate sound-absorptive materials to counteract potential echo. These materials work by trapping sound waves in their porous structure, preventing them from bouncing haphazardly around the space. Designers can select from acoustic products that act as an aesthetic feature within a space, or go for more subtle options for a more minimalist approach.
Acoufelt’s interior soundscaping products are designed to absorb sound, reduce reverberation and limit sound transmission in cellar door and brewery environments. Not only do Acoufelt offer a full suite of floor, wall and ceiling products, but we can also assist with acoustic consultations, delivery, installation, furniture removal, as well as a number of other services. We also offer custom designs across each of our product collections.Â
Walls offer a variety of opportunities for acoustic treatment with Acoufelt’s broad collection of products, available in an array of sizes, colors, prints, cuts, and designs.
Depending on your acoustic and aesthetic needs, select from our regular panels, printed panels, wall shapes and wall tiles. Full panels are effective for mid-frequency sound generated by voice, and should be installed to sit at or above head height. For the best acoustic results, install panels on adjacent walls.
Designers may also opt for panels from our printed collection to work within a particular theme, and can select from our range of prints, or submit their own custom images for reproduction. For spaces requiring a more flexible solution, opt for shapes or wall tiles, which can be quickly and easily installed around any glass or other wall fixtures in colorful, mix and match patterns.
Depending on the ceiling system available to you, Acoufelt offers a mix of practical, easy-install acoustic ceiling products.
For areas requiring a targeted approach – such as a noisy bar or seating area – ceiling clouds or baffles can be hung above, offering a large surface area for acoustic absorption. High performing acoustic ceiling panels can also be stuck directly to the ceiling without sagging or drooping, offering an excellent NRC value of up to 0.85.
The ceiling at Dowie Doole Cellar Door in Mclaren Vale presented the perfect surface for subtle acoustic treatment. Full Color acoustic panels in ‘Piano Black’, cut to fit around lighting fixtures, provided exactly the right amount of absorption to achieve a great acoustic environment.
Barossa Valley’s Seppeltsfield winery requested their logo to be printed on Acoufelt’s acoustic panels, and installed on the walls in their main tasting room. The panels were installed to offset some of the sound reverberation caused by the hard concrete floor and wooden tasting counters.Â
