Sydney’s Knox Grammar Preparatory School envisioned transforming its library resource hub into a dynamic space conducive to STEM activities. The client sought to inspire curiosity and engagement among students from kindergarten to year six, fostering a love for learning through innovative design.
Abax Kingfisher, the firm responsible for the design and fit-out, responded with a visionary concept centered around the theme of ‘The tree of knowledge.’ The aim was to create an environment that would stimulate the children’s imagination through ‘bringing the outdoors inside’.
Acoufelt’s acoustic products played a pivotal role in bringing their vision to life. A custom FilaSorbâ„¢ felt tree became a focal point of the fit-out, adorned with branches in ‘Oregano’ and ‘Wasabi’ green hues and an ‘Ivory’ trunk, symbolizing growth and knowledge.
As a continuation of the biophilic theme, the ceiling installation features Acoufelt custom acoustic Clouds in ‘White’, as well as a mix of FilaSorbâ„¢ hanging birds in vibrant hues ‘Carrot’, ‘Lipstick’, ‘Denim’, ‘Iris’, ‘Azur’, ‘Berry’, and ‘Popcorn’. These elements not only enhance the acoustics of the library space, but add a playful touch, stimulating creativity and imagination.
To complement the ceiling features, Abax also selected Acoufelt’s Argentium BarrierBackâ„¢ carpet tiles in colors ‘Emerald’, ‘Ruby’, ‘Sapphire’, and ‘Silver Beam’. These tiles were strategically placed in four zones across the floor, visually delineating the different areas of the library hub while providing soundscaping value and comfort underfoot.
With Acoufelt’s soft architectural solutions seamlessly blending auditory comfort and aesthetic appeal, the library resource hub has been transformed into a vibrant oasis for learning, collaboration, and discovery.
