Pophouse design studio balance fun and function with 1912 print collection

Pophouse Design Studio

Charles in color Mist from the 1912 Print Collection strikes a playful balance between form and function in Pophouse’s reinvigorated Detroit design studio.

Pophouse is a full-scope design studio focused on creating ‘strategic, unconventional, and human-centric spaces’ for the built environment. Located in Detroit Michigan, their team of interior, industrial and environmental designers work on both commercial and residential projects. Famous for their historical underground workspace with its uniquely eclectic and art deco-inspired interior, Pophouse were looking to refresh and reimagine their office space to accommodate the changing needs of their workforce.

The return to the physical office presented an opportunity to rethink the functionality of the space and accommodate new working styles. Incorporating evidence-based research and team-member feedback, top priorities for their office refresh included ‘removal of workstations’, ‘increasing collaboration areas’ and ‘improve acoustics throughout the space’.

“Introducing Acoufelt’s acoustic panels into our office has been a natural addition,” says Pophouse Design Director Lee Goetgeluck, who identified the need for acoustic wall panels in one of the high-traffic areas of the office. Lee adds, “the feature wall of panels helps to regulate the acoustics and provide a more comfortable and productive environment for our team members to work in”.

Acoufelt’s 1912 collection of acoustic panels is composed of five classically-inspired patterns in nine fresh colorways. The designs pull inspiration from original hand-painted textures; a playful exploration into shape and form, and the rich cultural and architectural landscape of Detroit with a distinctly Art Deco vibe. Panels are printed using Acoufelt’s high-resolution QuietPrint™ technology and achieve a minimum Noise Reduction Coefficient (NRC) of 0.45.

Lee tells Acoufelt, “We selected the Charles pattern in color Mist because of the simplistic linework, transitions from warm to cool tones which ties into our mixed tones throughout the rest of the Pophouse space.”
