Ceiling clouds for heritage cafe

Little Mission Café

Heritage building turned café: Little Mission opted to hang Acoufelt’s acoustic ceiling clouds to complement the high exposed ceilings of what was the former Adelaide Mission Hall, whilst also absorbing the sound reverberation from the concrete floor and adjacent glass windows.

Little Mission Café sits within the Adelaide CBD’s new multi-level arts venue Light in the historic Light Square, founded by not-for-profit organisation ‘Light Social Enterprise’.

Formerly the Adelaide Mission Hall, the interior has since been transformed into a cosy café. While the original heritage brick exterior remains intact, the renovated interior now includes a colourful mural wall, emerald-green tiled counter, and floor-to-ceiling windows overlooking the outdoor dining area.

The brick framework, polished concrete floors and adjacent windows were highlight features of the interior, but being hard surfaces, needed to be considered within the context of the soundscape. Little Mission opted to hang ceiling clouds in color ‘Piano Black’ over the counter and inside seating area to complement the high, exposed ceilings. The felt ceiling clouds add an element of depth and texture, but remain subtle enough to not detract from the rest of the interior aesthetic.
