Elevating Storey co-working space with soft architectural products, in partnership with British Land

Storey Co-working Space

British Land, one of the UK’s largest property development and investment companies, is committed to creating and managing spaces that evolve with the changing needs of those who work, visit, or live in and around them.

To support this mission, British Land collaborated with the expert design team at Thirdway to create a versatile, work-ready space for their co-working sub-brand, Storey. Dotted around London, Storey provides flexible, modern office spaces tailored to meet the needs of a dynamic workforce.

For their Kingdom Street location in Paddington Central, British Land were looking to blend aesthetic appeal with functionality, creating a balanced environment that would promote both productivity and user comfort. To achieve this, Thirdway opted to integrate Acoufeltโ€™s soft architectural products, renowned for their sleek designs and strong acoustic performance.

Working closely with Thirdway, Acoufelt custom-designed a bespoke Framework โ€˜Openโ€™ ceiling frame as a focal point of the space. Made from Acoufeltโ€™s signature FilaSorbโ„ข acoustic felt, and selected in neutral color โ€˜Umberโ€™, the frame consists of a series of 700 x 700mm squares with elegantly curved corners. Suspended above a key focus area, the open construction seamlessly integrates with pendant lights, adding a sleek, modern touch. Beyond its visual appeal, the ceiling frame significantly enhances the acoustics of the environment, nurturing a soundscape where productivity can thrive.

Thirdway also chose Acoufeltโ€™s QuietFormโ„ข debossed acoustic panels for both wall and ceiling installations in key meeting spaces. Featuring the โ€˜Celestialโ€™ pattern with its soft, undulating design, these panels were selected in colors โ€˜Pistachio,โ€™ โ€˜Walnut,โ€™ โ€˜Umber,โ€™ and โ€˜Ivoryโ€™, complementing the warm, neutral palette of the interior. In the larger meeting room, QuietFormโ„ขย panels were installed on the ceiling to add texture while effectively mitigating excess noise during meetings. This design is echoed in smaller meeting rooms, where the panels are used as wall installations behind AV equipment or as a standalone acoustic feature.

In line with British Landโ€™s commitment to sustainability, the materials used in this project were selected with environmental responsibility in mind. Acoufeltโ€™s signature FilaSorbโ„ข material, the core component in each of these designs, is made from over 60% recycled PET and is manufactured using 40% renewable energy.

The result is a co-working environment that meets the high standards of British Land and the Storey brand. The space is a testament to the power of thoughtful design and high-quality materials in creating a workplace that supports both the functional needs and well-being of its users. The integration of Acoufeltโ€™s bespoke acoustic products has not only improved the acoustics within the space but has also added a layer of sophistication and sustainability, making Storey a desirable destination for modern professionals.
